Kenan Kiliç on his film  JOURNEY BY NIGHT
There are a number of bars in Vienna where similar stories could happen. What they have in common is an atmosphere which becomes tangible as soon as one enters, a feeling of intruding in a closed system, a world with its own rules and rituals - lonely islands of hopes, dreams and isolation.
What fascinated me most by these “closed societies” is the extent to which the personal stories are universally valid. A JOURNEY BY NIGHT, possibly with different characters from different lands, could happen in any other large European city such as Paris or Berlin.
JOURNEY BY NIGHT was filmed in Turkish and then subtitled. In order to give it the greatest possible authenticity, I used only amateurs I have met in Vienna who live as refugees or homeless or unemployed persons.
